The candidacy of the governor of the Tula region, Alexei Dyumin, has long been called in Russia a possible successor to the dictator and war criminal Vladimir Putin. But in the context of recent events, they see him as a replacement for Defense Minister Shoigu.

Nasha Niva writes that 50-year-old Dyumin holds the rank of Colonel General and in the past served as Deputy Minister of Defense. But Dyumin did not stay there even for two months (from December 24, 2015 to February 2, 2016), after which he was appointed governor of the Tula region.
Dyumin’s father is a military doctor, General Gennady Dyumin, in the 1990s he was a member of the inner circle of the then Minister of Defense of Russia (1992-1996) Pavel Grachev.
Alexey Dyumin graduated from the Voronezh Higher Military Engineering School of Radio Electronics in 1994. Immediately after graduating from college, he was sent to the Moscow Military District, to a small military unit that was engaged in countering enemy reconnaissance equipment.
A year later, Dyumin was in the presidential communications department of the Federal Security Service of Russia. Later, he moved to the Presidential Security Service and stayed there until 2007, when he was appointed head of the security of the head of the government of the Russian Federation, Viktor Zubkov (Zubkov was in this post during the shift change before castling between Putin and Medvedev).
In Russia, it was assumed that at that time Dyumin had grown to be the personal guard of the putler. He became his personal aide-de-camp.
In 2012-2014 – Deputy Head of the Presidential Security Service. Then Deputy Chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff, Commander of the Special Operations Forces, which played one of the key roles in the seizure of Crimea.
Dyumin ensured Putin’s safety in all his public appearances, both as prime minister and president.
Already the governor of the Tula region, Dyumin, said that he allegedly had to protect Putin from wild animals, in particular from a bear that made its way to the entrance of the presidential residence in the mountains.
About how Putin trusts Dyumin, one episode, about which the propagandist of Komsomolskaya Pravda Alexander Gamov wrote, can speak.
He described how, during Putin’s 2010 trip to Siberia and the Far East, it was Dyumin who held Putin back while taking skin and blubber samples from gray whales.
I then looked at this nightmare. Putin with a crossbow aims at a 15-meter whale, which jumps out of the sea like a giant candle. The arrow is flying! And next to Putin is Dyumin, who is holding the prime minister, embracing his torso, the journalist recalled.
In addition, it was Dyumin who developed and carried out the operation of the emergency removal of the fugitive President Viktor Yanukovych on the night of February 23, 2014. Dyumin called the message about his participation in the events myths and refused to comment on them.
In 2016, an investigation of the Dozhd TV channel about Dyumin appeared. It stated that in December 2014 he moved into an apartment in Moscow with an area of 344 square meters, which in 2016 cost 700 million rubles. But Dyumin claimed that he had nothing to do with the apartment and its owner was supposedly his full namesake.
Another thing that strengthens Dyumin’s ties with Putin is hockey. The future general began to study it (and quite professionally) at school. Now he plays with the Kremlin dwarf.
In 2015, Dyumin was appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Ground Forces, and on December 24 of the same year, Deputy Minister of Defense.
On February 2 of that time, Lieutenant General Dyumin was appointed to act as governor of the Tula region. In September, he won the gubernatorial election.
The Tula region has been the center of the military-industrial complex since tsarist times. There were large defense enterprises producing, among other things, anti-aircraft missile systems.
Since 2017, the general’s surname has repeatedly appeared among Putin’s likely successors as president of Russia.
Various sources claim that Dyumin’s loyalty to Putin is highly valued in the Kremlin. Dyumin remains a figure close to the Russian president. In 2021, he was awarded the rank of Colonel General by a closed decree of the President of Russia.
In October 2022, they wrote that the appointment of the Tula governor Dyumin to the highest military post is also lobbied by Ramzan Kadyrov, who has combat-ready Chechen units.
They wrote that Yevgeny Prigozhin also has a good relationship with Dyumin. It is believed that the general is supported by presidential aide Dmitry Mironov, as well as many representatives of regional authorities.
During Prigozhin’s recent rebellion, the media got information that Dyumin personally went to negotiate with him. But the press service of the governor denied this information.
