Mikhail Romanov, a soldier of the 239th regiment of the 90th Guards Tank Vitebsk-Novgorod Division of the Russian Armed Forces, will be tried for the murder of a civilian man and sexual abuse of his wife.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine submitted to the court the first case of rape during the war. This was announced by Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova.
It was reported that Mikhail Romanov, a soldier of the 239th regiment of the 90th guards tank Vitebsk-Novgorod division of the Russian Armed Forces, will be tried for the murder of a civilian man and sexual abuse of his wife.
The Kyiv region prosecutor’s office and the SBU, as part of the investigation of shameful war crimes, were established that in March, during the occupation of the Brovarsky district, a monster entered a house in one of the village and shot its owner. The drunk soldier, along with another occupant, raped his wife several times immediately after the murder. They threatened the woman with weapons and violence even against her son, who was in the vicinity at the time, the report said.
The accused is still at large, but Venediktova said she could not escape a fair trial and accountability before the law.
If you know more information about the involvement of this serviceman in other war crimes, please notify our single evidence hub https://warcrimes.gov.ua/ or contact the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office: 097- 053-04-65, 097- 838-31-87, 050-107-66-75, the message said.
It was noted that the most important part of the process of combating the use of rape as a weapon of war is the cooperation of victims with law enforcement agencies.
When the victims are ready and feel safe, they can always turn to us for help and legal protection, ”Venediktova wrote.
Gang rape of children by the occupiers had previously been reported. According to the Ombudsman, a 14-year-old girl who was raped by five male occupiers is now pregnant. And an 11-year-old boy was raped in front of his mother.
