The value of the deal with the Rheinmetall concern is about 60 million euros, writes Der Spiegel. The funds will be provided by the German government, writes DW.
According to the agreement, the first package of 20 thousand ammunition for the next two years has already been agreed.
By 2029, it is planned to supply up to 333 thousand 155-millimeter ammunition to the warehouses of the Bundeswehr. They, among other things, will be used to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
At the same time, the Bundeswehr will receive a tranche of 20,000 shells, which will be delivered as early as 2023.
Until 2029, the Armed Forces of Ukraine can receive additional ammunition under the contract if necessary. Only recently the German Ministry of Defense admitted that the Bundeswehr currently only has about 20,000 artillery ammunition, which does not meet the standards of the North Atlantic Alliance.
In May, Germany announced 2.7 billion euros in long-term aid to Ukraine. The package will include 30 Leopard 1 tanks, 15 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, more than 200 reconnaissance drones and four Iris-T anti-aircraft systems, according to a statement from the German Ministry of Defense.
