The turmoil in Russia caused by yesterday’s debacle of Wagner PMC leader Yevgeny Prigozhin could last for weeks or even months. This is what US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said, Sky News reports.
He said tensions with Russia have been building for months and that Russia’s military effectiveness in Ukraine may be at risk.
“We know that Putin will have to answer more in the coming weeks and months,” Blinken explained.
When asked if the US was prepared for Putin’s potential departure from power, as well as about the security of nuclear weapons, the secretary of state said: “We are always prepared for any unforeseen event.”
In addition, the US Secretary of State said that the States will continue to support Ukraine.
“As the Russians are confused and isolated, it may become more difficult to prosecute them for their aggression against Ukraine,” he added.
Recall that PMC leader Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin staged a military coup. Columns of “Wagnerites” moved to Moscow. But after negotiations with the leader of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, he returned the units to the field camps. And the Kremlin promised to drop the criminal case against Prigozhin.
The media also learned that Putin promised Prigozhin to stop the march on Moscow.
