The driver of the Mercedes-Benz car exceeded the speed limit and allowed the vehicle to end up in a ditch followed by a rollover.
In the Kirovograd region, a fatal accident occurred near the village of Novgorodka on the Kropyvnytskyi-Krivoy Rog-Zaporozhye highway. Graduates crashed at one of the local schools, and a drunken policeman was driving, the regional prosecutor’s office reported on Sunday, June 25.
According to the investigation, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz car grossly violated the rules of the road, exceeded the speed limit, lost control of the vehicle and allowed the vehicle to end up in the canal followed by a rollover. In the cabin of the passenger car were five passengers – graduates of one of the local schools.
As a result of the accident, three 16-year-old girls (all born in 2006) died at the scene. Two other passengers – a boy born in 2005 and a girl born in 2007 – were injured.
The police sergeant of the regional administration was driving the vehicle. He was driving under the influence of alcohol.
The law enforcement officer was arrested. The issue of informing him about the suspicion of a fatal accident (part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and choosing a preventive measure is resolved. The punishment of the article provides up to 10 years in prison with the removal of the right to drive vehicles.
The prosecutor’s office will petition the court to apply a non-alternative measure of detention.
Earlier, five people died in the Carpathian region during the accident. The tragedy occurred in the village of Ivanovtsy, Kolomyia district.
Also this week in the Odessa region, five foreigners were injured in an accident. The driver lost control of the Mercedes-Benz Vito and drove into a ditch, where the minibus overturned.
