The European Council approved 11 packages of economic and individual restrictive measures aimed at strengthening existing EU sanctions against the Russian Federation and stopping their evasion. The list of export restrictions includes 87 defense industry companies, including third-country companies involved in the sale of drones from Iran and evasion of sanctions. Thus, for the first time, the EU included as a preventive measure in the package the possibility of expanding the ban on the export of goods to third countries where goods subject to sanctions entered Russia. It allows, in particular, to ban the export of sensitive dual-use goods and certain goods related to the defense industry. In addition, the decision expanded the list of prohibited goods that could contribute to the technological improvement of Russia’s defense and security sector. In addition to the economic sanctions, the Council decided to include a large number of additional individuals and entities on the list. The Russian Foreign Ministry called the EU sanctions “illegitimate, undermining the international legal prerogatives of the UN Security Council.”
Ukraine has not yet engaged major military forces in the current counter-offensive, so “everything is still early.” This was said by the commander of the Ground Forces, Colonel-General Alexander Syrsky.
