Interior Minister Igor Klymenko stated this on the air of the national telethon, the Ukrinform agency reports.
The numbers are really disappointing. Only 77%, and in digital terms, this is 47 thousand shelters that are ready to receive citizens and to perform their functions. 23%, respectively, are absolutely not ready for this,” he said.
Only 43% of our population can take refuge in these 77% of suitable shelters, the minister emphasized.
Klymenko noted that the commission for checking bomb shelters worked from June 1 to 10. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police, the State Emergency Service prepared a register of all shelters, along with photos, videos, and an indication of responsible persons.
All heads of local authorities, military administrations, business entities can see in the police what condition and what shelters are in the territory entrusted to them and take measures accordingly, the minister explained.
He also said that at the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council, proposals were made to develop amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine to increase liability for improper maintenance of shelter facilities and to the Code of Administrative Offenses to increase fines.
