Member of the Bundestag compared Ukraine with the Third Reich. With these words, Tino Khrupalla spoke the other day on Sandra Meischberger’s talk show on the German TV channel ARD.

Khrupalla is the official representative of the far-right Alternative for Germany party, co-chairman of its faction in the Bundestag. He recently attended a controversial reception at the Russian embassy on 9 May.
Bild writes that the presenter, remembering this step, asked him if he thinks that Ukraine should capitulate to Russia.
It’s not about surrender. I think the goal should be a willingness to negotiate, which will save both sides,” he replied. “Any day that ends the war early, even with the cession of territory, will be a good day.
His opponent from the liberal Free Democratic Party reflected that “surrender, of course, should not be.” He asked Khrupallu if he wanted a similar fate for his native country. The politician replied: “We said this in 1945!”
You just said that Hitler’s Germany, the Wehrmacht, which had to capitulate, can be compared with Ukraine? Maischberger asked.
And you just said that Ukraine should… it should capitulate,” Khrupalla replied.
Wow! He did not repeat his comparison to the Nazis, but he did not abandon it either, writes BILD columnist Joseph Nyari.
He calls the words of the far-right MP “a huge scandal”, “a terrible faux pas” and “a daring ploy.”
Background
According to the latest polls, Putin’s German friends, the Alternative for Germany party, are ahead of Chancellor Scholz’s Social Democrats. The rise of right-wing populists often close to the Kremlin can be seen in several other EU countries.
Also, the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany said that during next year’s European Parliament elections it will seek the “dissolution” of the European Union or the withdrawal of Germany from it.
As noted in the political force, “the patience of the party leaders in relation to the EU has been exhausted,” therefore they are in favor of dissolving the union and want to establish instead of it “a new European economic community and community of interests, a federation of European nations.”
The party conference is to vote on this position at the end of July. Alternative for Germany has been advocating a German exit from the EU by at least 2019, and also calls for the abolition of the European Parliament.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the right-wing populist political force has consistently opposed military support for Kyiv. AfD members are sharply critical of German arms supplies to Ukraine, accusing the German government of “warmongering”, and the recent decision to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks was called “catastrophic”.
Recall that in recent weeks, prominent members of the German mainstream parties have expressed dismay at a new poll showing support for the far-right Alternative for Germany at a record high of 18%, equaling that of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats.
