Europol is concerned that after the war in Ukraine, many weapons could fall into the hands of criminals.
Europol will form a group to address the issue of weapons after the war in Ukraine, as Europe wants to avoid a potential recurrence of the Balkan scenario in the 90s. On Sunday, May 29, DW reports.
“Someday the war will end. We want to prevent the situation that was 30 years ago during the wars in the Balkans. The weapons of that time are still used by criminal groups today. We need to find a way to deal with it. the situation after the possible end of the war. We will form an international working group to resolve this issue, “said Catherine de Bolle, executive director of the agency.
Bolle pointed out that Europol was aware of the covert activity of infiltration from EU territory into Ukraine and in the other direction of people known for their terrorist and extremist views and willing to use violence.
“The situation is very dynamic and fragmented, and we receive different numbers from our partners in Europe. People traveling to Ukraine are a heterogenous group, whose members differ in experience and ideology, ”de Bolle said.
He also said that people who had returned from Ukraine and “who had gone beyond the brutality of the military reality” were also being monitored.
Earlier, Europol announced the launch of Operation Oscar, whose aim is to help EU countries find assets subject to EU anti-Russian sanctions.
