On the territory of the Ternopil region in the village of Polotycha, a truck caught fire, carrying a caustic substance – hydrochloric acid. The fire caused an acid leak. This was announced on Wednesday, June 21, by the press service of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Ternopil region.
“A fire broke out in a truck carrying 18 eurocubes of hydrochloric acid. As a result, a container was depressurized and a chemically hazardous substance leaked. The radiation and chemical intelligence department of the radiation, chemical and biological protection group of the specially rescue unit was sent to the scene and the mobile task force of the 2nd State Fire and Rescue Squad,” said the State Emergency Service.
It is known that rescuers quickly extinguished the fire and took measures to minimize the consequences of the hydrochloric acid leak.
“The department of radiation and chemical intelligence pumped acid from the damaged tank and then neutralized it. There is no threat to people,” the State Emergency Service stressed.
Rescuers added that it is one of the most corrosive liquids used in various industries.
Recall that in March there was a fire on the territory of one of the largest enterprises in the Russian Federation in the chemical industry – the production association Fine Organic Synthesis.
