The EU says Georgia should focus on political depolarization, judicial reform, de-oligarchization, media freedom.
Brussels believes that Georgia has fully implemented three of the 12 recommendations for obtaining the status of a candidate for EU membership. This was reported by the Georgian service Radio Liberty.
According to the publication, the EU said Georgia should focus on political depolarization, judicial reform, deoligarchization, and media freedom.
Brussels believes that Georgia has implemented the following recommendations:
-
Election of an independent Public Defender.
-
Gender equality.
-
Implementation of decisions of the European Court of Human Rights.
“Partial progress” can be seen in the following recommendations:
-
Deoligarchization.
-
political polarization.
-
Functioning and accountability of state institutions and systems.
-
Inclusive and effective judicial reform.
-
Fight corruption.
-
Fight against organized crime.
-
Protection of human rights.
-
Participation of civil society in decision-making.
There is only one recommendation, as defined by Brussels, that Georgia is not developing, and that is media pluralism. In order to make progress on this recommendation, Georgia must amend the Broadcasting Law, safeguard the safety of journalists, and increase the level of protection for the press and media owners.
It was previously reported that the European Parliament doubts Hungary’s ability to lead the EU Council.
