The European Commission printed textbooks for Ukraine free of charge from publishing houses, which also provided their layouts and printing rights free of charge.
The first batch of Ukrainian language textbooks under the New Ukrainian School program is already in Ukraine. Textbooks for Ukraine are printed for free abroad, according to Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lesovoy.
“By the end of June, we will receive all 503,000 Ukrainian language textbooks for the 5th grade, which will be delivered directly to schools by September 1. Our partners from the European Commission have agreed to print this edition free of charge last year. Now we are talking about printing another batch of textbooks on other subjects. This is a significant help from our friends in Europe. I am grateful to the continued support of Ukrainian children and teachers,” Lesovoy said in a statement.
It is reported that the European Commission has printed textbooks from publishers who have donated their layouts and the right to print.
“We are grateful to the Morning and Education publishing house for participating in this project. Plan International supported the delivery of textbooks from the EU to Ukraine. Thank you for your help!” – added the minister.
Lesovoy also said that for 2023, the state budget for textbooks for NUS provides 754.9 million hryvnias.
“For these funds we released: 65% of all necessary textbooks for students of the 6th grade, textbooks on the history of Ukraine for the 5th grade, books- Braille lessons, textbooks for schools teaching the languages of national minorities in all subjects for grades 5-6. In addition, parts of the textbooks for the 5th grade was printed last year with the support of partners (mathematics, Polish language, natural sciences),” the message continued to read.
The minister said that negotiations are underway to print the remaining textbooks for grades 5-6.
“There are already several agreements, with the European Commission. We understand that the availability of textbooks is an issue that worries teachers, students, and parents. Therefore, we are doing everything to new academic year, students in grades 5-6 study according to the new NUS textbooks,” Lesovoy wrote.
Earlier it was reported that a school textbook on anti-Ukrainian propaganda was published in Hungary.
