The President of Serbia said he had agreed with his colleague in Russia a new contract for gas supplies for three years. The Kremlin has confirmed Russia’s “uninterrupted supply” of gas to Serbia.
Russia will continue to supply gas to Serbia. This was agreed in a telephone conversation on Sunday, May 29, between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two countries also aim to strengthen cooperation.
As a result of the talks, Vucic said he had agreed with Putin a new contract for Russia’s gas supply for three years, and not for several months, as before.
“I can’t say the price of gas now, all the details will be agreed with Gazprom,” Vučić’s words to reporters were quoted by the media. At the same time, the President of Serbia said that this would be the most favorable price in Europe.
In turn, the Serbian TV channel RTS reports that Vučić later explained that the price for gas for Serbia, according to his data, is from 310 to 408 dollars per thousand cubic meters. Based on the 2.2 billion cubic meters that Serbia needs, this is the best gas price in Europe, the President of Serbia said.
The contract for Russia’s gas supply to Serbia, which is still in effect, will expire on Tuesday, May 31. Vučić also said he discussed with the Russian President the expansion of storage opportunities of gas in Serbia.
The Kremlin’s press service confirmed that, in accordance with the agreement between the leaders of the two countries, “Russia will continue to supply uninterrupted natural gas to Serbia.”
In addition, heads of state discussed the situation in Ukraine and Kosovo, the Kremlin said in a statement.
“The mutual intention to continue to strengthen the strategic partnership between Russia and Serbia on the basis of the traditional close relationship between the people of the two countries has been confirmed,” the press service added.
Earlier, Vučić said Serbia would follow Europe’s path in international relations.
