Finnish President Sauli Niiniste will formally appoint Orpo as the new head of the cabinet.
The Finnish Parliament on Tuesday approved the leader of the National Coalition Party (NCP), Petteri Orpo, as prime minister. The Yle TV and radio company reported this on Tuesday, June 20.
Orpo’s candidacy was supported by 107 MPs, while 81 MPs voted against.
“I sincerely thank you for your trust in me,” Orpo said after voting was over.
Today, Finnish President Sauli Niiniste will officially appoint Orpo as the new head of the cabinet of ministers. The new government will start working on the same day.
As you know, in early April, the National Coalition Party won the parliamentary elections in Finland. On April 6, the Sanna Marin government resigned.
At the end of April, NCP leader Petteri Orpo announced his decision to form a coalition government with the Real Finns, the Finnish Christian Democrats and the Swedish People’s Party.
