In general, the government plans to reduce financial aid to developing countries, Ukraine will be the main recipient of financial aid.

Finland’s new government, which will begin work on Tuesday, June 20, will stop helping African countries that support the Russian Federation in its war against Ukraine. This was said by the future Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio, Yle broadcasting company reports.

“Some African countries have expressed their support for Russia. We will keep an eye on them,” he said, adding that overall the government plans to reduce financial aid to developing countries by about one billion euros.

Tavio also noted that Ukraine will be the main recipient of financial aid in the framework of support provided by Finland to developing countries.

Finland, through international programs and organizations, annually allocates several billion euros to help developing countries. Earlier, Helsinki committed itself to raising humanitarian aid to 0.7% of GDP, in accordance with UN recommendations, but this goal was not achieved in practice.

Recall that at the end of last week, African leaders went to Russia, where they met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The head of the Kremlin regime tried to justify the invasion of Ukraine.
