As Aleksey Reznikov said in an interview with Current Time, the conversation took place on the afternoon of February 24, 2022.
Reznikov said that on the first day of the war, Khrenin acted as an intermediary for Shoigi and called him with an offer to surrender.
After lunch, the Belarusian minister called with a proposal to sign the act of surrender. It was funny.
And how did it sound?
The Belarusian minister demanded a conversation. And before that, we talked with him, discussed the risk and threats, and he promised me under oath, gave the word of an officer that there could be no invasion from the territory of Belarus. He encroached on the honor of the officer, not fulfilling his promises.
I called anyway, it was sometime after dinner. He sounded very awkward, he was clearly very uncomfortable. He says: “I am acting as an intermediary, I want to convey a message to you from Minister Shoig that there is a proposal to sign an act of surrender and then everything can be stopped.
I didn’t have time for a consultation. I just reacted instantly (but no scolding!), I just said: “Thank you for trying to act as some kind of transmitter. You can tell me that I will sign the instrument of surrender on the part of Russia. And then we’ll finish this whole thing. It was our only virtual contact,” Reznikov shared.
