Finland will produce fuselage parts for F-35 fighters ordered by other countries.
The Finnish defense company Patria and the American military-industrial corporation Lockheed Martin have signed the first framework agreement on direct industrial cooperation as part of the F-35 fifth-generation fighter procurement project. It was reported on Patria’s website on Monday, June 19.
The agreement concerns the assembly of the front fuselage of the F-35 in Finland.
“The agreement between Patria and Lockheed Martin to assemble the F-35 forward fuselage is an important step for the entire Finnish F-35 and Patria project. The large-scale production of the forward fuselage will bring the industrial capabilities of Patria to a new level,” said Patria F-35 Project Manager Petri Hepola.
In this regard, the director of F-35 client programs at Locheed Martin, Mike Shoemaker, expressed the opinion that the F-35 project will provide the Finnish industry with unique opportunities and the use of fifth-generation technology .
It is planned that the fuselage parts for the F-35 aircraft ordered by other countries will be manufactured in Finland.
In addition, Patria is working with engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney to develop F-35 engine production projects.
It will be remembered that in February 2022, Finland signed a contract for the purchase of 64 F-35 fighters. The total value of the contract is approximately 10 billion euros.
