Chancellor Scholz, in a conversation with Putin, did not agree with the proposed method of payment of gas and asked to provide him with information in writing.
The German government said that after talks yesterday between Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia agreed not to demand payment for gas in rubles.
It was noted that Putin, in a conversation with Scholz, proposed to transfer the fee for Russian gas in euros to Gazprombank, and from there in rubles to Russia. However, Scholz did not agree with this approach during the conversation, and asked to write everything down to better understand the position of the Russian Federation.
The statement also states that “the agreement of the G7 countries remains in effect: payment for energy supplies will be made only in euros or dollars, as stipulated by the agreements.”
Recall that Vladimir Putin ordered to transfer payments for gas in rubles. Prices and volumes on previously concluded contracts will not change, only the payment currency will change.
The Kremlin has threatened to shut down gas in Europe
