The Ministry of Justice is negotiating for Ukraine to receive the collection free of charge, but at the moment we are talking about a large sum for the storage of exhibits at the Pearson Museum.
The Ministry of Justice is negotiating with a Dutch museum on the return of Scythian gold to Ukraine free of charge. This was announced by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko on the air of the telethon.
“In fact, there is a certain amount that we have to pay for the storage of this collection in the Dutch museum. Now the Ministry of Justice is negotiating so that we can return this collection to Ukraine free of charge as soon as possible period,” Tkachenko said.
Recall that in early 2014, the Scythian gold collection was transferred for exhibition to the Allard Pearson Museum in Amsterdam. At the time of the exhibition, Crimea was already occupied by Russia. Since then, the rights to the Scythian gold have been challenged in court.
We are talking about a collection of unique archaeological treasures: weapons, precious stones, valuable Chinese lacquered boxes, gold ornaments of the Scythians. One of the important specimens of the exhibition is an old Scythian helmet, which is more than 2400 years old. The cost of the entire exhibition is estimated at more than one million euros.
The Court of Appeal in Amsterdam decided that the collection of Scythian gold from Crimean museums should be transferred to Ukraine.
