Vilnius Municipality joined the initiative to support Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance.
In the capital of Lithuania – Vilnius, at least 33,000 Ukrainian flags will be displayed in support of Ukraine’s membership in NATO. They will decorate the city from 7 to 11 July. On Tuesday, June 13, the LRT report refers to city authorities.
“Since the beginning of the war, we have been actively supporting Ukraine. We would also like to see our support during the NATO summit. We understand the size and importance of this meeting in the context of world political events, we also understand the opportunity to attract more attention of the world to the situation in Ukraine and its desire to become a member of the Alliance,” Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas emphasized.
He stressed that the chosen number of flags was not accidental.
“The chosen number of flags is symbolic, because Ukraine can become the 33rd member of NATO,” he explained and added that there could be more blue and yellow flags in Vilnius this time.
The mayor called on residents and administrators of apartment buildings to also take part in action in support of Ukraine. According to him, “no investments are needed – the organizers of the initiative will take care of everything.”
It will be remembered that on June 1, Volodymyr Zelensky said that he expects Ukraine to be accepted into the EU and NATO as soon as possible.
