The WSJ writes about this on June 13, citing an administration official.
The Pentagon wants the Abrams tanks provided by Ukraine to the US to be armed with such projectiles, the newspaper writes. This proposal was discussed for weeks in the White House. They are also discussing whether to supply cluster munitions. So far, these decisions have not been officially announced.
Earlier, the UK announced its intention to transfer shells with depleted uranium to Ukraine.
Although some officials say there are no major barriers to providing Ukraine with such shells, some White House officials have expressed concern that Washington will be criticized for transferring the shells because they pose a danger to human health and the environment.
The White House is also discussing the possibility of supplying Ukraine with cluster munitions.
The term “depleted uranium” is understood as a by-product for the separation of the radioactive isotope of uranium U-235 for nuclear power and weapons. This metal, after the extraction of the active isotope, becomes less radioactive than natural uranium and its ore and has 40% less radiation.
