People have already suffered the devastating effects of the conflict and are now driven from their homes; many lost their homes and property during the flood. The health risks for those affected could increase in the coming weeks, so there is a need for clean drinking water.
The efforts of the Federation are aimed at the following areas:
- Meeting urgent humanitarian needs. This includes operational, technical and financial assistance aimed at strengthening the local capacity of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine in providing assistance, distributing humanitarian supplies, providing medical support, promoting good sanitation and hygiene practices and meeting the urgent needs of the affected population.
- Long-term recovery and rehabilitation. This includes facilitating livelihood restoration projects, providing psychosocial support, and rebuilding damaged infrastructure to help communities rebuild their lives.
Realizing the urgency of the situation, the IFRC, along with its membership, actively supports the Red Cross Society of Ukraine in its response efforts. This includes operational, technical and financial assistance to strengthen local capacity to deliver aid, distribute relief items, provide medical care, promote good sanitation and hygiene, and meet the urgent needs of the affected population.
In addition to immediate assistance, the IFRC network continues to support flood-affected communities in their long-term recovery and rehabilitation. This includes supporting projects to restore livelihoods, provide psychosocial support, and rebuild damaged infrastructure to help communities rebuild their lives.
Since February 2022, the IFRC has expanded its response with the help of the Ukrainian Red Cross along with National Societies around the world.
Together we provide urgent humanitarian assistance to people in Ukraine and those who have been forced to flee to other countries. Together we work tirelessly to meet urgent needs, bring hope and pave the way for a long-term recovery. Through the strength of compassion and solidarity, we seek to restore life and rebuild resilience in the face of this devastating event, the Red Cross said in a publication.
