The Ukrainian side submitted an appeal to provide detailed information about Ukrainian citizens and to immediately provide access to them for the Ukrainian consul.
A Hungarian lawyer was summoned to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. The reason is that the Russian Orthodox Church, without an agreement with Ukraine, gave the country a group of Ukrainian prisoners of war from Transcarpathia. This was announced by the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, Oleg Nikolenko.
According to him, the release of Ukrainian prisoners is always good news, because Ukraine, in cooperation with international partners, is actively working to return all our soldiers.
“At the same time, the Ukrainian government was not informed about the relevant negotiations between the Hungarian and Russian sides. From the public statements of the Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary, we learned that Russia handed over eleven Ukrainians of Hungarian origin in Budapest,” said Nikolenko.
He added that the Ukrainian side has submitted an appeal to provide detailed information about the citizens of Ukraine and to immediately provide access to them for the Ukrainian consul so that he can identify their state of health and provide them with consular assistance.
During the meeting, they separately mentioned the need to coordinate the release of prisoners.
Recall that the media reported that the Russian Orthodox Church was planning to transfer 11 Ukrainian prisoners to Hungary. This decision was not agreed upon in Ukraine.
Hungary later confirmed that the Russian Federation had handed over Ukrainian prisoners to it.
