Officially, this could be announced as early as Friday, the agency reports.
According to Bloomberg, the funding will be channeled through USAI.
This channel, unlike the PDA, which provides for the immediate transfer of weapons from the Pentagon’s stocks and whose limit for this fiscal year is already close to exhaustion, is intended to conclude contracts with American manufacturers for the manufacture of certain weapons needed by Ukraine.
Deliveries through this channel are designed for a more distant future – from 9-10 months to several years.
In this case, according to the agency, the new package will help Ukraine acquire Hawk medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as two types of missiles for Patriot systems already on combat duty in Ukraine.
The American military medium-range anti-aircraft missile system Hawk was adopted by the United States in 1960 and has since been modernized several times. Its later versions are capable of hitting not only aircraft, but also cruise missiles. By 2002, the United States gradually replaced it with more modern systems, but it continues to be in service with a number of countries.
According to open sources, a total of 1,700 such complexes have now been produced in the United States and some other countries.
