Julia Kozak noted that the International Monetary Fund will provide a full assessment of this man-made disaster.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is closely monitoring the situation with the collapse of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. In particular, the fund plans to assess the economic impact of this man-made disaster together with the government of Ukraine. Julia Kozak, Director of the IMF Communications Department, said this in a comment to Ukrinform on Thursday, June 8.
“Unfortunately, it is too early to assess the losses for the economy. Of course, we are closely monitoring the situation. Our team maintains very close and constant contact with the authorities (in Ukraine – ed.) , and then we will provide a full assessment,” he said.
According to him, the IMF is very concerned about the social, economic and environmental consequences of the destruction of the hydroelectric power station.
“This is certainly a human tragedy, very sad. We express our condolences to those who suffered as a result of this tragedy,” Kozak added.
Remember, on March 31, the IMF Board approved a four-year program for Ukraine in the amount of $15.6 billion.
