This move significantly raises the stakes for the former US president as the investigation appears to be nearing completion.
The US federal prosecutor’s office has identified former President Donald Trump as the subject of a criminal investigation into the “classified documents” case. On Wednesday, June 7, The Guardian reported.
It can be noted that last week the Federal Prosecutor’s Office officially informed the politicians’ lawyers about this.
The move escalates dramatically for Trump as the investigation appears to be drawing to a close.
Two weeks ago, Trump’s lawyers met with Attorney General Merrick Garland and raised concerns about alleged “misconduct and abuse by Special Counsel Jack Smith.” The publication notes that during the meeting, lawyers also tried to convince the Attorney General not to file criminal charges against Trump.
It will be remembered that last year, 11 sets of classified documents were seized from Trump during the search.
Earlier, Trump was accused in the case of payments to a former porn actress, in total he could face more than 100 years in prison.
