In Ukraine, fighting has increased in intensity, but the country’s military leadership has shown restraint in divulging details.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that in Ukraine the intensity of fighting on the front line has increased, while representatives of the country’s military leadership are showing restraint in disseminating details of a possible counteroffensive. Stoltenberg said this in a discussion at the Center for a New American Security, broadcast by CNAS.
He noted that the Alliance accepts such restraint by the Ukrainian side regarding possible offensive actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“In terms of the offensive, we see an increase in the intensity of fighting along the front line. But I am always careful not to talk about operational details. It is really up to the Ukrainians to talk about such things ,” said Stoltenberg.
The Secretary General of NATO also said that the video recently posted by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on social networks “definitely called for the avoidance of information about the counteroffensive or details of its operation.”
Stoltenberg said that any war is unpredictable, and no one can say how it will develop.
“But we know that what happens at the negotiating table, which we hope will at some stage end this war, depends entirely on achieving the goals on the battlefield,” he said.
Stoltenberg added that partner countries and allies should strengthen Ukraine’s position on the battlefield so that “they can get a result of this war that will ensure the preservation of Ukraine as a sovereign and independent country, and that will not win Putin in this war.”
Recall that on Wednesday the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced the advance near Bakhmut. The Armed Forces of Ukraine switched from defensive to offensive.
