Data was stolen from eight UK companies that used the MOVEit system and provided payroll services.
The Clop group (a cybercriminal group based in Russia) issued an ultimatum to the victims of the hacker attack affected by the MOVEit system hack. The BBC reported it.
We are talking about more than 100,000 employees of the BBC, British Airways, Aer Lingus, Boots and other companies.
The hackers released messages warning organizations to email them by June 14 or else the stolen data would be released.
Employers are urged not to pay if hackers demand a ransom.
It was reported that data was stolen from eight British companies that used the MOVEit system and provided payroll services. Among the stolen data were home addresses, national insurance numbers and, in some cases, bank details.
Cybersecurity experts have long monitored the activities of the Clop group, which is believed to be based in Russia because it operates primarily on Russian-language forums.
In 2021, likely hackers of the Clop group were detained in Ukraine as part of a joint operation by law enforcement officials from Ukraine, the United States and South Korea.
Recall that several large enterprises and several state institutions of Lithuania were subjected to cyber attacks on May 30, some of which were carried out from Russia.
It was also reported that Russian hackers attacked the Prague City Hall website.
