Beijing’s UN representative called for efforts to protect the civilian population and prevent a nuclear disaster.
China is deeply concerned about the situation around the Kakhovskaya HPP and its environmental impacts. This is what the Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the UN Zhang Jun said at a meeting of the Security Council on June 6.
“We express deep concern about the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. We are deeply concerned about the humanitarian, economic and environmental consequences,” the Chinese diplomat said.
According to him, “Beijing calls on all parties to the conflict to respect international humanitarian law and make every effort to protect the civilian population and civilian infrastructure.”
Jun emphasized that it is important to avoid a nuclear catastrophe because of the threat to the safety of the Zaporozhye NPP.
Recall that on the night of June 6, Russian troops blew up the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, which caused large-scale flooding in the territories of the Kherson region and caused great environmental, economic, and humanitarian damage to Ukraine.
