The opinion of the Hungarians has changed for the better for Ukraine: the majority of the population believes that the Russian attack is unfounded.
A public opinion poll in several Central and Eastern European countries showed a negative change in the public opinion of individual states for Ukraine about who is to blame for the full invasion of the territory of Ukraine. This is confirmed by the results of a study by the Slovak analytical organization GLOBSEC.
The organization commissioned a representative sociological study in eight Central and Eastern European countries and compared its results with a similar survey conducted a year ago in the second half of spring 2022. In particular, the study was conducted in eight countries: Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and Slovakia.
In most of the countries studied, the share of those who agree that Russia was primarily responsible for the attack on Ukraine increased or remained almost unchanged during the year.
Last year, there was only one state where less than half of citizens supported this opinion – Hungary (48%). However, today Hungarians have dramatically changed their minds: more than half of the country’s population – 54% of Hungarians – assesses the attack of the Russian Federation as unfounded.
At the same time, the indicators of two states – Slovakia and Bulgaria – underwent negative changes. In particular, in Bulgaria, the opinion about the guilt of the Russian Federation for the attack on Ukraine fell from 50% to 46%. In Slovakia, this number fell from 51 to 40% and became the smallest of all the countries studied.
Recall that the number of Kazakhs who believe that Russia might attack their country has doubled in the past six months.
