Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that his country is not Russia’s ally in the war against Ukraine. He stressed that the war greatly affects all international relations of Armenia. According to him, in the West they believe that Armenia is an ally of Russia, but in Russia they see that Yerevan does not support the war.

The Kremlin has already reacted to these statements by Pashinyan. The speaker of the Russian president-dictator Dmitry Peskov noted that “this was taken into account.”
Pashinyan made a statement that Armenia is not on the road in Russia’s war in Ukraine in an interview with the Czech television channel CNN Prima News.
This has never been said out loud, but I think it shows: we are not Russia’s allies in the war with Ukraine. And our feeling from this war, from this conflict is anxiety, because it has a direct impact on all our relationships,” he said (quoted from News.am).
Pashinyan pointed out the vulnerability of Armenia’s position: in the West, the country is considered an ally of Russia, while in Russia they do not think so.
It seems that there is a way to avoid all these collisions, but the truth is that the more difficult the situation, the less room for maneuvering. We avoid this not because we have no opinion on the situation, but because we have many problems that do not allow us to be more involved in solving other issues, the prime minister added.
On his Facebook page, Pashinyan wrote that the interview was recorded in May during his official visit to the Czech Republic.
In May, Pashinyan said that Armenia had not yet decided to participate in the joint exercises of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), because Yerevan was given the impression that the organization “left Armenia.” He suggested that Armenia may decide to terminate or freeze its membership in the CSTO.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated:
If this is a figure of language in order to lobby for a position on Armenia’s withdrawal from the CSTO, then it seems to me that we still need to understand the whole danger of manipulating words.
In response, Pashinyan said that his interlocutors in Russia were the president and the prime minister, and the representative of the Foreign Ministry could not comment on his statements.
