While the West considers Armenia an ally of the Russian Federation, in Russia itself, however, they realize that Armenia is not on their side.
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, in an interview with the Czech TV channel CNN Prima News, said that his country is not an ally of Russia in the war in Ukraine.
“You said that we are allies of Russia. Of course, it was not said out loud, but I think it can be seen. We are not allies of Russia in the war in Ukraine. And our feeling from this war, from this conflict is anxiety, because it directly affects all our relationships,” he said.
Pashinyan said that while the West considers Armenia an ally of Russia, in Russia itself, however, they realize that Armenia is not on their side.
“It appears that we have no allies in this situation, which means we are vulnerable,” he said.
The Prime Minister of Armenia also noted that the country has its own problems that do not allow it to be fully involved in this issue.
“We are abstaining not because we don’t have an opinion on the situation, we are abstaining because our problems, unfortunately, are bigger than they can allow us to be more involved in solving other problems,” Pashinyan added .
It was previously reported that Armenia was helping Russia evade sanctions. Thus, in two years, the country quadrupled its exports to the Russian Federation – up to about 2.5 billion dollars.
In May, Ukraine considered the participation of the Armenian prime minister in the victory parade in Moscow as an immoral and unfriendly act.
