They, according to the German Chancellor, should be different from the status of NATO members, but should provide Ukraine with the necessary protection.
Any future Western security guarantees for Ukraine must be different from European NATO members. This was announced on Thursday, June 1, by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at a press conference at the second meeting of the European Political Community in Moldova, Reuters reports.
Scholz added that Ukraine and its allies are still “very far” from achieving peace in the country.
“Given the current situation, it’s not about establishing membership … We should all focus on how we can support Ukraine,” Scholz said.
Asked about possible security guarantees related to Ukraine, Scholz added: “They should be designed in such a way that they provide Ukraine with the necessary protection against the risk of attack, so that they also stabilize the Ukraine at the same time … and, of course, a serious attitude is always part of the security guarantee.”
Remember, on Thursday, President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz the increase in the possibility of Ukrainian air defense and the increase of sanctions against the Russian economy.
