The American leader tripped and fell on his way back from the stage to his seat. He later joked that sandbags were thrown at him.

US President Joe Biden on Thursday, June 1, collapsed on stage during the graduation ceremony at the Air Force Academy in Colorado, reports The Associated Press.

Biden congratulated graduates in Colorado Springs, Colorado, but tripped and fell while walking back from the stage to his seat. He was assisted by an Air Force officer and two members of the US Secret Service.

The audience, including several members of the official delegation on stage, watched in dismay as Biden, at age 80, the oldest president in US history, returned to his seat to watch the ceremony end.

“I got sandbags thrown at me,” the president told reporters with a smile as he returned to the White House.

Two small black sandbags lay on the stage supporting the teleprompter used by Biden and the other commencement speakers.

It will be remembered that a year ago, Biden fell off his bicycle while walking, but he was not injured. And a year before, Biden tripped on the stairs of the plane.
