Ruslan Stefanchuk plans to raise the issue of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic future at the parliamentary level.
The head of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk arrived on a working visit to the capital of Lithuania – Vilnius, where he will participate in the summit of the heads of parliaments of NATO member states. The spokesperson announced this on Facebook on Thursday, June 1.
Stefanchuk noted that he had already met with Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte and told her about another Russian attack on Ukraine.
“Therefore, I called for more defense support for Ukraine. I thanked for the help already provided,” said the head of the Ukrainian parliament.
According to him, during the conversation the question of Ukraine’s future membership in NATO was also raised.
“We know that during the war, Ukraine cannot become a member of NATO. But in July, at the Vilnius summit, we hope to receive a clear signal, a decision to invite Ukraine to become a member of the Alliance ” he stressed.
Stefanchuk called on Lithuania to continue supporting Ukraine on this path.
“Today I am in Lithuania mainly to raise the issue of the Euro-Atlantic future at the parliamentary level,” the spokesperson added.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance will not happen while the war continues, but that the path to future membership is open.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine is doing everything possible to make a decision at the NATO summit in Vilnius that “works” for our state.
