It is possible to unblock the work of the main body for forming the judiciary, the Supreme Court said.
The High Council of Justice (HJC) appointed 16 new members of the High Qualifications Commission of Judges (HQJC). This was reported on the VSP website on Thursday, June 1.
It is indicated that in this way the work of the main body for the formation of the judiciary has been unblocked.
“This will allow for the selection of judges for more than two thousand vacant positions, as well as to complete the assessment of the qualifications of judges,” the report said.
It was also emphasized that the formation of the HQCJ is one of the main goals in the Strategy for the Development of the Justice System and Constitutional Court Proceedings for 2021-2023.
“After all, the preservation of Ukraine’s status as a candidate country for EU accession and the success of further negotiations on Ukraine’s full membership in the European Union depend on this decision,” added the GSP.
Interfax-Ukraine reported that the following candidates were approved for the positions of HQCC members: Lyudmila Volkova, Vitaliy Hatselyuk, Yaroslav Dukh, Nadezhda Kobetskaya, Ruslan Melnik, Andriy Pasechnik, Roman Sabodash, Ruslan Sidorovich, Mikhail Bogonos, Roman Ignatov, Roman Kidisyuk, Oleg Koliush, Vladimir Lugansky, Alexey Emelyan, Sergey Chumak, Galina Shevchuk.
And Ukrinform clarified that for the first time voting for new members of the HQCC was held publicly and by name by a show of hands. Overall, the SCJ elected HQCJ members from 31 candidates.
Recall that at the beginning of this year, the plenipotentiary composition of the High Council of Justice was restored, and on January 19 its first meeting took place after an 11-month break in work.
It was also reported that since the beginning of the year, the High Council of Justice dismissed 97 judges. 89 of them resigned, and eight more – in connection with submitting applications of their own free will.
