A decision is needed on the full protection of Ukraine from Russian attacks on the ground and in the air, the President said.
Two coalitions – Western Patriot missile systems and fighter jets – will help defeat the modern Russian terrorist. This is what the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said at the summit of the European Political Community in Moldova on Thursday, June 1.
According to him, a decision is needed on the full protection of Ukraine from Russian attacks on the ground and in the air.
“Tonight, Russian missiles killed three more people in Kiev, injured ten. One child was killed… At least 484 Ukrainian children were killed by Russia. There are now two decisive elements: the Patriot coalition, which will put an end to Russian blackmail with ballistic missiles, and a coalition of modern fighters who will prove that terrorism does not stand a chance against our cities,” the president said.
He thanked everyone who helped and understood that “every step in providing air defense literally saves lives, and the speed of building these two coalitions – the Patriot coalition and the coalition of modern fighters – is literally that makes the world go faster.”
Zelensky also believes that all countries with common borders with Russia, including Ukraine, should join the EU and NATO as soon as possible. Otherwise, only two options await them – open war or occupation. Russia fears NATO and tries to prevent other countries from joining the Alliance and settling frozen conflicts in neighboring territories. In particular, the president cited the example of Transnistria, where Russia’s “peackeepers” have been for decades.
“All the countries that border Russia and don’t want to be separated by Russia should join the EU and NATO. We have only two alternatives – either open war or gradual conquest by Russia. We see what is happening in Belarus, Georgia. People are being brought into a state of lawlessness,” Zelensky said.
In this regard, the President said that he expects Ukraine to be admitted to the EU and NATO as soon as possible.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance will not happen while the war continues, but that the path to future membership is open.
