Japan’s Seoul and Okinawa have issued an air alert following the launch of a military satellite by North Korea.
An air alert was issued in Japan and South Korea following the launch of a space launch vehicle in North Korea. On Tuesday, May 30, according to The Guardian.
The DPRK said the rocket launched was the carrier of a military satellite, which it planned to launch into orbit between May 31 and June 11. It is not known whether the satellite was launched by this particular rocket or a test.
In Seoul, after the launch, an air alert was announced and citizens were urged to prepare for a possible evacuation. However, the Home Office later said the warning had been sent in error.
The danger was also reported in the southern prefecture of Japanese Okinawa. Subsequently, it was confirmed that the missile did not fly into Japanese territory.
North Korea’s satellite launch is in violation of UN Security Council resolutions banning the country from using ballistic technology as it is seen as a cover for missile testing.
Earlier in the DPRK warned a “strict response” in the event of a spy satellite launch.
