A coalition of fighters could be formed using the base model of the American F-16, as well as the Eurofighter and the Swedish Gripen, the defense minister said.
The aircraft coalition for Ukraine may be expanded to the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov in an interview with the German media group Funke and the French newspaper Ouest France, published on Tuesday, May 30.
“If the UK and Germany combine their ability to provide Eurofighters, this will be an important step,” the minister said.
He recalled that today there is an international tank coalition, where the main model is the German Leopard 2, as well as the American Abrams and the British Challenger. Therefore, a coalition of fighters can be formed similar to the base model of the American F-16, as well as the Eurofighter and the Swedish Gripen.
Reznikov believes that in total Ukraine needs about 120 fighters, and the main number may be the F-16 – the most massive fourth-generation fighter, “but the Eurofighter and Gripen will also help us. “
According to him, Ukraine will welcome Germany’s participation in the training of Ukrainian pilots in the Eurofighter.
“Our British partners are ready to offer Ukrainians training courses on Eurofighter fighters. And we are discussing with our Swedish friends how to start training on the Saab Gripen aircraft,” said Reznikov .
It will be remembered that the State Department said that the United States considers it a priority to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighters, and this will begin to be implemented in cooperation with allies and partners in the coming months.
