In Russia, the law on martial law has changed. The law signed by Putin on May 29 allows, in particular, to hold elections in the occupied territories and deport residents.

The law “On martial law” now spells out the possibility of “forced and controlled movement of citizens from the territory where martial law has been introduced to territories where it has not been introduced.”
Also, after the amendments to the law “On Martial Law”, it became possible to hold referendums and elections to state authorities and local self-government bodies, if the decision on them was made by the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation “based on the results of consultations with the federal executive body responsible for the development and implementation of the state policy, regulatory and legal regulation in the field of defense and the federal executive body”.
It will be possible to hold elections both in the entire territory where martial law has been introduced, and only in its part.
As of the end of May 2023, martial law was introduced by Russian law on the territories of the fake DPR and LPR, as well as Zaporozhye and Kherson regions occupied by the Katsaps.
