The document provides for the creation of a State Commission to investigate Russia’s influence in the country in 2007-2022.
Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a law creating a State Commission to Investigate Russian Influences in Poland in 2007-2022 and sent it to the Constitutional Court for consideration. He said this on May 29 at a press conference in Warsaw, RMF 24 reports.
The Polish leader stressed that Russian influence in Europe “caused chaos” and the aggression against Ukraine, energy and other problems were the result. He was sure they needed to be studied, so he asked Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki to raise this issue at the European Council.
“In my opinion, like a commission, this type of body should be created at the European level to investigate Russian influence also in European institutions,” Duda stressed.
He noted that the Polish public should be aware of Russia’s influence on political life in the country.
“Therefore, I too, here in Poland, decided to sign a law recently adopted in the Polish parliament regarding the creation of a special state commission to investigate Russian influence in aspects related to the security of Poland for the past two decades,” the politician. explained.
The law provides that the commission will review official documents, cases of information transfer to third parties and the adoption of “harmful decisions” in the period from 2007 to 2022. The commission will also have the power to reverse administrative decisions made as a result of Russian influence.
The Polish opposition opposes the creation of a commission in this form, stressing that it will be an instrument of pressure and persecution. Poland’s Senate Marshal Tomasz Grodzki said Duda’s decision was “scandalous and shameful.”
It can be recalled that on April 14, the Seimas approved the law establishing a commission to investigate Russian influences, but on May 11, the Senate repealed it. On May 26, the Seimas overrode the veto of the Senate, which is dominated by the opposition.
