That is why the Western allies should transfer four squadrons of such aircraft to Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced this on May 26 on Twitter.
Four squadrons of F-16s are exactly what we need to liberate the country from the aggressor.
Earlier, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that Western fighters would allow Ukraine to gain an advantage in the air and cover the territory where Ukrainian ground-based air defense systems do not reach.
Ground-based air defense systems will cover strategic directions, important facilities, and cities. Fighters will not be able to work against ballistic missiles, because Patriot and Samp-T air defense systems are needed here. However, the F-16s will protect Ukrainian airspace from cruise missiles like the Kh-101, Caliber, and Shahed-type kamikaze drones.
Recall that on May 15, during the 12th meeting in the Ramstein format, Ukraine’s allies agreed on the training of Ukrainian pilots on fourth-generation aircraft, including the F-16. Denmark and the Netherlands will lead the European coalition in the field of training pilots from Ukraine.
