In the future, additional steps can be taken to ensure the security of the “Union State”, warned Sergei Shoigu.
Russia, which deployed non-strategic nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus, did not transfer them to Minsk, control over them and the decision on their use remains in Moscow. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said this, the Russian military department reported on Thursday, May 25.
“Russia is not transferring nuclear weapons to the Republic of Belarus: control over them and the decision on their use remains on the Russian side,” he said during the signing of documents defining the procedure for stockpiling of Russia’s non-strategic nuclear weapons in a special storage facility on the territory of Belarus.
At the same time, Shoigu noted that “in the future, additional measures can be taken to ensure the security of the “Union State” and respond to the military-political situation.”
It should be reminded that today the defense ministers of Russia and Belarus signed a document on the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus. Minsk was given the Iskander-M missile system, capable of using missiles with nuclear weapons. At the same time, some of the Belarusian aircraft were converted for the possible use of nuclear weapons.
As you know, on March 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow agreed with Minsk on the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus.
Subsequently, the head of the ruling regime of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said that with the development of threats, strategic nuclear weapons can be introduced in the country, and the infrastructure for this is ready.
