Borrell: Several countries are training the Ukrainians on the F-16

The F-16 fighter jet is an absolute necessity so that “the Ukrainians can continue to defend themselves,” the head of European diplomacy stressed.

Several EU countries have already started training Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets. The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said this on Tuesday, May 23, before a meeting of the EU Council in Brussels, answering questions from a journalist.

“I’m happy that F-16 pilot training has finally started in several countries. It will take time,” said Borrell.

And to the clarifying question of journalists in which country the exercises began, Borel answered: “Of many, for example, in Poland.”

The head of EU diplomacy noted that the F-16 fighter jets are an absolute necessity so that “the Ukrainians can continue to defend themselves.”

On the eve of Borrell it was said that the Ukrainians are already training on the F-16. He hopes that Ukraine will soon receive these planes.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden confirmed his agreement to train our F-16 pilots during negotiations with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Japan. Biden said he had received “strong assurances” that the F-16s would not be used for attacks on Russian ground.
