The company is working on a comprehensive increase in travel safety, in particular, it is introducing video surveillance and buttons to call the conductor.
Ukrzaliznytsia is working to improve travel safety and plans to test women’s coupes. This was announced on May 23 by the company’s press service.
The carrier develops relevant IT solutions and changes in regulations, as well as consulting with lawyers, international and Ukrainian public organizations.
“We believe in a set of measures where panic buttons and alarms in compartments, video surveillance, increased patrols and inevitable punishment for any proven display of claims play an important role in eradicating this phenomenon,” said Evgeniy Lyashchenko, Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia.
To help women feel more comfortable and safer, the company will introduce a “pilot” of female coupes that will be tested over the course of several months.
The decision on further scaling depends on actual demand and feedback.
It was noted that at the first stage, the service for purchasing tickets for women’s compartments can only be implemented through the mobile application of Ukrzaliznytsia.
The carrier added that all new and modernized Ukrzaliznytsya cars (about 15%) are equipped with CCTV cameras and conductor call buttons.
Recall that in 2021, the court ordered Ukrzaliznytsia to pay 100,000 hryvnia moral compensation to Anastasia Lugovaya, who was beaten and tried to rape on the train by a fellow traveler.
