Advanced groups of Ukrainians have left for European countries that could provide training sites, an Air Force spokesman said.
The Polish government has confirmed information about the start of exercises for Ukrainian pilots on the F-16 fighter jet. This was announced on Tuesday, May 23, by Ukrinform, citing a source in the Polish government.
“Yes, it’s true,” said the interlocutor of the agency, answering a question whether Poland confirms the words of EU High Representative Josep Borrell about the start of training of Ukrainian pilots on the F-16.
As mentioned in the government, the official information on this matter is still some time away.
At the same time, the source emphasized that Warsaw is actively trying to help Kyiv in all possible areas, for example, also by training Ukrainian tankers in Leopard 2.
In this regard, the spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ignat, said that the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets in European countries has not yet begun, but the preparation of specialists for at the beginning of the training continues.
“The process of preparing people to start this training is still ongoing. There are advanced groups that have traveled to European countries that can provide us with training sites. We are studying how this process will go. , etc. The pilots themselves, who are already piloting, not yet,” he said on the air of the telethon.
He said that the moment is being studied, when and which groups will go to study in some countries and how long the process will take.
Earlier on Tuesday, EU High Representative Josep Borrell said several countries, including Poland, had begun training Ukrainian pilots to fly the F-16.
And the Pentagon said when the first F-16 fighter could appear in Ukraine.
