Erdogan scored 49.51%, his opponent Kemal Kilicdaroglu – 44.89%. None of the candidates managed to gain the necessary number of votes (50%) to win in the first round. The second round will take place on May 28.
Sinan Ogan is a representative of the far-right Ata bloc. After the first round on May 14, Erdogan and opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu failed to overcome the required 50% threshold. Today, Ogan announced his support for the incumbent president.
We support Erdogan because we believe this is the right decision for our people and our country,” he said.
According to BILD columnist René Harzke, now “Erdogan’s victory is expected” in the elections.
Earlier, the Turkish research company Optimar conducted a poll on who Ogan’s electorate will vote for in the second round of the presidential elections (May 28):
-
Erdogan and Kilicdaroglu won an equal number of votes – 25% of Ogan’s voters can go to them;
-
27.9% of the polled supporters of the “bronze” candidate were undecided;
-
18.6% – will not vote
The survey was conducted on May 17-18 among 3,000 respondents in 81 Turkish provinces.
