On Saturday, May 20, a Dutch plane crashed in western Croatia, killing three Dutch citizens, according to NOS.
The Cirrus SR20 disappeared from radar shortly after noon. It goes from the Slovenian city of Maribor to the Croatian coastal city of Pula. The names of the dead have not been released.
The plane crashed in the woods of Maly Makovnik, on Mount Capella. About 120 rescuers searched the plane and passengers last night, including using drones and helicopters. Rescuers discovered the wreckage of the crashed plane shortly after 19:00.
Air crash investigation chief Danko Petrin said air traffic control records, pilot communications, radar and other data were being analyzed to get a complete picture of what happened. According to Petrin, the investigation should determine whether the fog observed yesterday played a role in the disaster: “Bad weather does not automatically mean that it was the cause of the disaster.”
The registration number belongs to a private jet leased by a Rotterdam company.
The Dutch Foreign Ministry told NOS that the area where the plane crashed is difficult to access because there are still mines planted after the war in Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Therefore, rescuers must proceed with caution.
