US President Joe Biden confirmed his agreement to train Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters during negotiations with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Japan. The American leader said this in a press conference on May 21.
“I told Zelensky that Ukrainian pilots will be trained on fourth-generation aircraft, including the F-16. So that Ukraine can protect itself,” he said.
Biden said he had received “strong assurances” from the Ukrainian president that the F-16s would not be used to attack Russia.
Earlier, the Air Force reported that Ukrainian pilots were tested in the United States, which made it possible to predict the time required to master the F-16 aircraft. The American side came to the conclusion that the Ukrainian military could be retrained within four months.
