The President of the Russian Federation personally congratulated the mercenaries from PMC Wagner and the military on the alleged “liberation” of Bakhmut and promised them state honors.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin congratulated Wagner mercenaries and the Russian military for allegedly capturing the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. On the evening of Sunday, May 21, RosSMI reported in connection with the press service of the Kremlin.
“Vladimir Putin congratulates the detachments of the Wagner attack, as well as all the servicemen of the units of the Armed Forces of Russia, who provided them with the necessary support and flank cover, on the completion of the operation to free Artemovsk (Bakhmut – ed.),” the message said.
The Kremlin also promised to present “all those who distinguished themselves” for state awards.
It was previously reported that on May 20, the head of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, posted a video near the railway station building in the center of Bakhmut, where he claimed that his mercenaries allegedly completely captured the city and on May 25 they will give his “protection” to the soldiers of the Russian Ministry of Defense and leave.
Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that Prigozhin claimed that he only captured the Bakhmut in order to quickly recover the remnants of his group, which was almost destroyed.
Also, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that a critical situation had developed in Bakhmut. However, the Ukrainian army continues to hold the line.
